EcoPlusHome Energy Savings Forecast Tool

Here’s how the tool supports our work with you on your new home:

  1. We enter the climate profile (highs and lows) of your chosen community, and Natural Resources Canada’s energy-consumption and green house gas emission averages for a family of four over 12 months.
  2. We calculate the 12-month energy consumption and green house gas emissions of your new home design for the 2 construction options generally available to builders:
    1. Conventional built-to-code home (EnergGuide 65-72)
    2. Home built to a standard EnerGuide 80 efficiency rating
  3. We assess how best to incorporate EcoPlusHome construction techniques, materials and energy-efficiency systems to make your new home an EcoPlusHome – with a minimum pre-construction EnerGuide rating of 93+. We then calculate your new – and significantly reduced – energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
  4. We forecast the 10-year energy consumption patterns of all 3 scenarios (built to code, EnerGuide 80 and EcoPlusHome) comparing:
    • Energy-costs – high for the conventional home, incredibly low for the EcoPlusHome
    • Annual green house gas emissions – high for conventional, a fraction for the EcoPlusHome
  5. Once your new EcoPlusHome is finished, a certified third-party Energy Efficiency Advisor should determine your final EnerGuide rating so you can claim your energy-efficiency incentives and rebates.
